A sensação de fome é aliviada, tornando menos provável a ingestão excessiva de alimentos. Estudos têm mostrado que um maior consumo de fibras é asso- ciado a uma maior excreção fecal de gordura (com redução da atividade da lipase em 30% - 70%). EFEITOS SOBRE O METABOLISMO DE CARBOIDRATO Outro efeito importante atri- buído às fibras insolúveis está rela- cionado ao tratamento dietético de diabetes mellitus. Fibras insolúveis podem absorver vários nutrientes no trato digestivo, incluindo a glicose dos carboidra- tos - de extrema importância para os dia- béticos. Como resultado, a glicose passa mais lentamente do intestino para o sangue, e o nível de açúcar no sangue sobe apenas gradualmente. Consequentemente, menos insulina é necessária para fazer o nível de açúcar no sangue cair novamente. Cientistas do German Institute of Human Nutrition, sob a direção do Prof. Dr. Pfeiffer, estudaram a eficácia de fibras alimentares insolú- veis em 14 mulheres adultas jovens e saudáveis. O metabolismo do açúcar foi definido pela medição simultânea dos níveis de insulina e dos níveis de açúcar no sangue após consumirem pão branco que continha 10g de fibra VITACEL® ou pão branco SEM nenhuma fibra adicionada. Na primeira refeição com pão, não foram observadas dife- renças agudas dependentes de fibra VITACEL® no metabolismo do açúcar. No segundo dia, a quantidade de açúcar no sangue foi 30% menor após o consumo de fibra VITACEL® do que no primeiro dia.
